Welcome to the Media Center. Our goal is to help all students become literate with regard to all types of information technology and acquire the necessary skills they need to work across all media available in the 21st century.
As the internet becomes more prevalent in our work, education, and personal lives- the students must have the ability to navigate through the sea of information to reach their academic and personal goals both effectively and efficiently.
The media center will be working with the students on any research needs they may have for their classes, as well as going over strategies to perform their own searches safely and independently.
Independent reading is a priority for all St. Ann's students. Research shows independent readers (who read for entertainment purposes) do better academically than their peers who do not. This is why every student is expected to bring a reading book to every Library class they have.
Students must also test on the books they read independently. AR points will be assigned according to performance on the quizzes.
I will be focusing on research skills, internet resources, surfing the net safely, children's literature, qualifying information, citing sources, and the six traits of good writing so students can readily utilize these tools in their own writing, reading, and multimedia contributions.
I enjoy supporting all students' with regard to Information Literacy and illuminating resources that can serve students' educational needs throughout their academic careers and beyond.
Best Regards,
Brenda Patruno
